Scott Cordero serves as the Meteorologist In Charge at the NWS office in Jacksonville, Florida, leading a team responsible for protecting lives and property across NE FL and SE GA through forecasts, warnings, and decision support services. He collaborates closely with core partners, media, and community stakeholders to advance preparedness and response.

Since joining the Jacksonville office in 2013, Cordero has helped lead high-impact decision support operations during multiple severe and tropical events, including Hurricanes Matthew, Irma, Helene, and Milton. He began his NWS career in the early 1990s as a student aide in Chicago and Phoenix, becoming a full-time meteorologist in 1993 in Las Vegas, NV. His career includes leadership roles in Brownsville, TX; Honolulu, HI; Memphis, TN; Corpus Christi, TX; and Jacksonville, FL.

With nearly 35 years of NWS experience, Cordero is a recognized advocate for impact-based communication and integrated decision support. His national contributions include service assessment work following Super Typhoon Chata'an and leadership in the NWS Southern Region's Leadership program called BLAST. His honors include multiple regional awards, the National Aviation Award, and two U.S. DOC Gold Medals.

Cordero is gradauate of Unversity of Arizona, with graduate work at UNLV and University of Phoenix.
