Julie Stimson is the Sedgwick County Emergency Management Director. Julie is responsible for building and sustaining disaster prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery capabilities for 20 local jurisdictions that total a population of over 500,000 people. Julie is a retired Air Force Master Sergeant with 13 years of military public health, 3 years of senior military training leader experience, and seven years on the Inspector General Exercise Evaluation Team. Julie has a PhD and masters in Emergency Management. Julie is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM®) and a Kansas Certified Emergency Manager.
Throughout her career, Julie has volunteered with multiple disaster response agencies that include the Sedgwick County Medical Reserve Corps, the American Red Cross and Team Rubicon.
Julie has been recognized multiple times for her contributions to emergency management and public safety. Awards include: the 2021 Kansas Emergency Management Association’s Outstanding New Emergency Management Professional of the Year, The 2023 Wichita Business Journal “Women Who Lead Professional Services, the June, 2024 “Hometown Hero." In 2025 Julie was awarded the Excellence in Public Service Award and the International Association of Emergency Managers, Region 7, Emergency Manager of the Year.
