Christopher Smith is a National Programs Advisor with the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) which is part of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). He has more than 17 years with the BOP and more than 20 years in corrections. Chris' primary duty with the NIC is the production of correctional training materials. He recently completed a training program titled Preparing for and Responding to Emergencies in Correctional Facilities. He is currently managing the development of a training program on civility in the correctional workplace (staff wellness training). Future projects will delve into updating ICS for Corrections, creating correctional emergency plans and establishing a virtual correctional emergency managers work group. His instructional background includes teaching training programs to staff and inmates with the NIC, BOP, and a state Department of Corrections. Additionally, he was an Adjunct Instructor at a Community College for two years. He has a BS in Criminology and pursued graduate study towards a master's degree in international politics. His professional development includes numerous FEMA ICS Trainings including VDEM L0146, IS-120, 241, 300, 400,700, and 800.
