Robert D. McCord, CEM, GA-ACEM, MEDM, serves as the Deputy Director of the Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency, bringing more than 20 years of experience to the field. His career began in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense Specialist, deploying twice for Operation Iraqi Freedom. He then transitioned to civil service as an Emergency Preparedness Specialist for the Georgia Department of Public Health until 2012. Over his 17-year tenure with the Macon-Bibb County EMA, Robert progressed from a volunteer to Operations and Technical Officer in 2012, before being appointed Deputy Director in 2016. Notably, he directly managed county response and recovory efforts for two federally declared disasters—Hurricane Irma and COVID-19—and has supported numerous disasters winthin the state of Georgia through sheltering operations for coastal evacuations. He is a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) through IAEM, an Advanced Certified Emergency Manager (GA-ACEM) with the state of Georgia, a graduate of the NDEMU National Emergency Management Advanced Academy (NEMAA), and currently part of the 13th cohort of the National Emergency Management Executive Academy (NEMEA). Robert holds a BS in Public Service and Human Services from Middle Georgia State University and an MA in Emergency and Disaster Management from American Military University.
