Scott Buziecki has served as Director of the Kane County Office of Emergency Management since 2023, overseeing preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation efforts for one of Illinois' largest counties. He leads a staff of five and a volunteer corps of more than 70 “unpaid professionals,” integrating volunteers into response, planned events, training, and resilience initiatives to expand local capacity and strengthen community preparedness.Prior to this, Scott spent 27 years with the North Aurora Police Department, rising through the ranks and retiring as Deputy Chief of Police after more than 20 years in leadership positions. He also served 12 years as Emergency Management Coordinator, where he built a comprehensive emergency management program and developed a volunteer unit from the ground up—focused on collaboration, adaptability, and preparedness. Scott holds a Master's Degree in Management and Organizational Behavior and is accredited through the Illinois Professional Emergency Manager (IPEM) program. He brings a practical, people-centered leadership perspective to emergency management and is passionate about resilience through partnerships and empowered volunteers.
