As unprecedented weather and water disasters continue to drastically impact the nation and the field of emergency management, the National Weather Service (NWS) is undergoing a fundamental transformation to reduce the gap between a forecast and life-saving action. Guided by NWS Director Ken Graham's 'Ken's 10' initiatives, the NWS is evolving into a more nimble, flexible, and mobile agency - designed to sit 'eye-to-eye' with emergency managers during the moments that matter most.
In this candid fireside chat, the director of the National Weather Service will briefly discuss the core components of the NWS Transformation and the progress that we've made over the past several years. He'll then be joined on stage for a less formal fireside chat with two local employees of the NWS, and two of their colleagues from YOUR Emergency Management community. This conversation will explore our continuously transforming relations and reflect on how those changes have enhanced our partnerships while navigating recent and local disasters. Some topics that this conversation will explore include: Prioritizing and enabling our people, modernizing our infrastructure & alerts, and operationalizing our presence, delivering eye-to-eye service.
Attendees will gain a first-hand look at the roadmap for the 'Transformed NWS' in action, truly setting the stage for additional NWS related talks scattered throughout the week.
