Allyssa has a comprehensive background in natural resource protection and management with a strong commitment for science-based, community-driven solutions and education. She earned her Bachelor's in Biology from the University of Virginia's College at Wise before being accepted into the Peace Corps Master's International Program, serving as an Environmental Educator in Paraguay. While abroad, she concurrently completed her Masters in Environmental Studies with her research focus on environmental literacy. Upon her return to the states, she moved back to Charleston, SC where she began working with Audubon South Carolina. As the Coastal Stewardship Coordinator, she worked closely with state and local partners while managing the volunteer program. Building on her passion for stewardship of natural resources and environmental education Allyssa joined NOAA's Disaster Preparedness Program. In her role she fosters collaborations and building trust across the Southeast and Caribbean to address emerging challenges. She brings expertise and technical support to NOAA and its partners to advance adaptive capacity and innovative solutions to better prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters.
